聖亞豐索
福音：瑪14:1-12

今天是常年期第十七周星期六。教會在今天慶祝聖亞豐索主教聖師的紀念日。最近出版的羅馬彌撒經書告訴我們：聖亞豐索（1696-1787）出生於那不勒斯（義大利）。他在接受律師培訓後成為神父，並創立了至聖救主會（贖世主會），該會專長于佈道傳教。1762年，他被任命為主教，管轄聖阿加塔代戈蒂教區。他一生面臨諸多身體上的痛苦以及修會內部的分裂。他的眾多著作，尤其是關於倫理神學方面的著述，為他贏得了“教會聖師”的尊號。

今天，取自聖瑪竇福音的經文給我們講述洗者若翰的殉道史。我願意繼續提供一些反思。

有時候，我們也會如同黑落德那樣，對洗者若翰所做的一切感到懷疑。我們之所以感到懷疑，甚至感到困惑，因為那時候，我們是按照今世的邏輯看待洗者若翰，甚至會對洗者若翰所說的話，他的衣著，他所遵循的世界觀，人生觀，價值觀感到鄙夷。我想，黑落德，當他聽到洗者若翰指責他非法佔有他兄弟斐理伯的妻子的時候，或許也是這樣想的，可是，他的心中依然敬重若翰，想要保全若翰。可是，他終究和我們一樣，也是軟弱的，身上有各種各樣的缺陷，因為他拒絕接受耶穌基督所宣講的天國，拒絕按照耶穌基督所說的那樣生活。

事實上，在起初，我們尚未認識基督的時候，富於仁慈的主基督，如同派遣耶肋米亞先知一樣（參看：耶26:1-9），不斷地向我們派遣那些已領受基督的洗禮，在基督內重獲新生，藉著領受天主聖神，在基督內分享基督的天主性，君王，司祭和先知職份的兄弟姐妹，他們來到我們身邊，按照我們的理解幅度，向我們宣講天國的福音，盡其所能地滿足我們生活中的各種需要。幾時我們經驗到他們給我們帶來的溫暖，我們便會如同他們一樣，領受同一個洗禮、同一個聖神、在完整舉行的永久紀念基督的苦難，聖死和復活而舉行的感恩聖祭中，聆聽天主的聖言，領受同一基督的聖體，同一杯爵中的基督的聖血，並從基督的聖體聖血中，汲取豐厚的滋養，獲得力量，戰勝死亡，獲得永生。

我們常常忘記自己是一個基督徒，甚至認為，基督徒不過只是一個名號罷了，因而我們忘記天主賞賜給我們的珍貴禮物 —— 我們的聖召。因為我們幾乎要忘記無限仁慈的基督，祂曾在十字架上自作犧牲，為的是能將我們由罪惡中拯救出來，使我們因祂在十字架上所傾流的聖血，與天父和祂創造的這個世界修好。每當我們在生活中在世俗事物上失足跌倒時，我們便是在加增基督的苦難。甚至有時，我們會如同耶穌家鄉會堂中的群眾一樣，輕看天主透過祂建基於聖伯多祿（磐石）之上的教會（參看：瑪16:18-19）向我們揭示的天國的真相。因為我們如同黑落狄雅一樣，隨從出自肉性的妄動，我們不僅自己要陷入死亡，還要通過我們的近人，奪走他人的生命（參看：瑪13:6-8）並以此為樂。

親愛的主內！我們應當首先尋求的是天主的國和屬於天主子女的自由，常隨從天主聖神的引導，好能使自己生活在天主賞賜給我們的一切恩寵之中，進而不再受到這個世界的主人和它的使者給我們信仰帶來的負面影響。幾時我們隨從聖神的引導，我們便生活在照世真光 —— 基督 —— 滿盈的恩寵之中，並藉著領受基督的聖體聖血，由基督恩寵的府庫中，汲取豐富的恩寵。當我們領受基督賞賜給我們的一切之後，我們應當在生活中活出福音的喜樂，為使眾人因我們所行的一切，在日常生活中感受到天主對他們的豐富慈愛，與我們一道，在這由聖若翰以及無數殉道諸聖及真福傾流過熱血的流奶流蜜的土地上，與無數先賢一樣，勇敢地向世界宣傳天國的福音，引領眾人歸向天主。

天主，祢不斷在祢的教會內樹立新的聖德楷模。求祢恩賜我們緊緊追隨聖亞豐索主教的芳蹤，熱衷人靈，好能和他一樣，在天堂領受賞報。藉著祢的子，我們的主耶穌基督，祢和祂及聖神，是天主，永生永王。亞孟。

Saint Alphonsus
Gospel: Matthew 14:1-12

Today is Saturday of the Seventeenth Week in Ordinary Time. Today, the Church celebrates the Memorial of Saint Alphonsus, Bishop and Doctor of the Church. The recently published Roman Missal tells us: St. Alphonsus Liguori (1696-1787) was born in Naples, Italy. After studying law, he received the divine call and was ordained a priest. He founded the Congregation of the Most Holy Redeemer (Redemptorists), dedicating himself to preaching the Gospel and directing missionary activities. In 1762, he was appointed Bishop of the Diocese of Sant’ Agata dei Goti. He suffered greatly from illness throughout his life and endured divisions within his religious order. His prolific writings, especially his treatises on moral theology, earned him the honorific title of Doctor of the Church.

Today, the Scripture passage taken from the Gospel of Matthew recounts to us the martyrdom of John the Baptist. I would like to continue offering some reflections.

Sometimes, we too, like Herod, feel doubtful about all that John the Baptist did. We feel doubt, and even perplexity, because at that time, we look upon John the Baptist according to the logic of this present world, and we may even despise what he says, his clothing, and the worldview, outlook on life, and values he adheres to. I think Herod, when he heard John the Baptist accusing him of unlawfully taking the wife of his brother Philip, probably thought in this way as well. Yet, in his heart, he still respected John and wanted to protect him. However, in the end, he was weak like us, having various flaws, because he refused to accept the Kingdom of God preached by Jesus Christ, and refused to live according to what Jesus Christ taught.

In fact, when we had not yet known Christ, Christ the Lord, rich in mercy, just as He sent the prophet Jeremiah (cf. Jer 26:1-9), constantly sends to us our brothers and sisters who have received baptism into Christ, been reborn in Christ, and through receiving the Holy Spirit of God, share in Christ’s divinity, and in His offices of King, Priest, and Prophet. They come to our side, and according to our capacity for understanding, proclaim to us the Gospel of the Kingdom. They fulfill our various needs in life to the best of their ability. Whenever we experience the warmth they bring us, we too will become like them: receiving the same Baptism, the same Holy Spirit; in the Eucharist—which perpetually commemorates the Passion, Death, and Resurrection of Christ in its fullness—listening to the Word of God, and receiving the Body of the same Christ, and the Blood of Christ in the same chalice. And from the Body and Blood of Christ, we draw abundant nourishment, gain strength, conquer death, and obtain eternal life.

We often forget that we are Christians, even thinking that being a Christian is merely a title, thus forgetting the precious gift God has bestowed upon us—our vocation. Because we almost forget Christ, who is infinitely merciful, and who sacrificed Himself on the Cross in order to save us from sin, so that through His sacred Blood poured out on the Cross, we might be reconciled with the Father and with the world He created. Whenever we stumble and fall in worldly matters in our daily lives, we are adding to the sufferings of Christ. Sometimes, we even resemble the crowd in the synagogue of Jesus’ hometown, despising the truth of the Kingdom of God revealed to us by God through His Church, built upon the rock of St. Peter (cf. Mt 16:18-19). Because, like Herodias, we follow the foolish impulses of the flesh; not only do we plunge ourselves into death, but through our neighbors, we also take away the lives of others (cf. Mt 13:6-8) and take pleasure in it.

Beloved brothers and sisters in Christ! What we ought to seek first is the Kingdom of God and the freedom of the children of God. Let us always follow the guidance of the Holy Spirit, so that we may live within all the graces God has bestowed upon us and no longer be negatively affected in our faith by the ruler of this world and his agents. Whenever we follow the guidance of the Holy Spirit, we live in the abundant grace of Christ, the Light of the World. Through receiving the Body and Blood of Christ, we draw abundant graces from the treasury of Christ’s grace. After receiving all that Christ bestows upon us, we ought to live out the joy of the Gospel in our lives, so that everyone, through all that we do, may feel God’s abundant love for them in their daily lives. Together with us, on this land flowing with milk and honey—upon which St. John and countless holy Martyrs and Blessed have shed their blood—and like innumerable predecessors, let us courageously proclaim the Gospel of the Kingdom to the world and lead all people back to God.

O God, who constantly raise up in your Church new examples of virtue,
grant that we may follow so closely in the footsteps
of the Bishop Saint Alphonsus in his zeal for souls
as to attain the same rewards that are his in heaven.
Through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son,
who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit,
God, for ever and ever.
