福音:瑪1:18-24

如果我們從一個旁觀者的角度來看,一個尚未出閣的女子,在她尚未與她的丈夫同房之前,便有了身孕,時常會被視為對婚姻的不忠,因為我們會時常認為這女子似乎存在婚外情,或者是與別的男子發生了某種性行為。若瑟當時也可能是這樣想的,但由於他是義人,因而他不願公開羞辱她。因為按照以色列的傳統,如果一個女子未婚先孕,她的未婚夫應當當眾用石頭砸死她。因此,若瑟有意按照梅瑟法律(參看:申22:12-29)的規定,暗自休了瑪利亞,好保全她的名節。

聖瑪竇告訴我們:上主的天使顯現給若瑟的時候,除了向若瑟解釋瑪利亞腹中所孕育的孩子是來自聖神之外,還透露了耶穌基督的使命,就是基督要將祂自己的民族,由他們的罪惡中拯救出來。若瑟毫不遲延,頂住壓力,把聖母接到家中。以此給我們立了榜樣。

願始終承行天主聖意的聖若瑟和榮福童貞聖母瑪利亞替我們轉求,好使我們也能準備好自己的心神,迎接救主耶穌基督的聖誕。

Advent II: December 18th
Gospel: Matthew 1:18-24

If we view the situation from the perspective of an observer, an unmarried woman who becomes pregnant before marrying her betrothed is often regarded as unfaithful to her commitment, as it is commonly assumed she may have engaged in an extramarital affair or sexual relations with another man. Joseph may have thought the same at the time, but as a righteous man, he was unwilling to publicly disgrace her. According to Israelite tradition, if a woman became pregnant before marriage, her fiancéé was to stone her to death publicly. Therefore, Joseph intended to divorce Mary quietly in accordance with the Mosaic Law (cf. Deuteronomy 22:23-24), so as to preserve her honour.


St. Matthew tells us that when the angel of the Lord appeared to Joseph, he not only explained that the child conceived in Mary’s womb was of the Holy Spirit but also revealed the mission of Jesus Christ: that Christ would redeem His people from their sins. Without delay and despite the pressure, Joseph took the Virgin Mary into his home, thereby setting an example for us.


May St. Joseph, who always fulfilled the holy will of God, and the Blessed Virgin Mary intercede for us, that we too may prepare our hearts and minds to welcome the Nativity of our Savior, Jesus Christ.

在彌撒福音的第一部分(瑪1:1-6)中,瑪竇提及了亞巴郎。當亞巴郎蒙上主召叫時,上主曾對亞巴郎說:“離開你的故鄉、你的家族和父家,往我指定的地方去。我要使你成為一個大民族,我必祝福你,使你成名,成為一個福源。我要祝福那祝福你的人,咒駡那咒駡你的人;地上萬民都要因你獲得祝福。”(參看:創12:1-3)之後,亞巴郎立即遵行了上主的旨意,甚至是在他老年得子時,天主為試探他,命令他帶著心愛的獨生子依撒格往摩黎雅地方去,在祂指定的一座山上,將他獻為全燔祭時,他懷著堅定的信德,以及對天主的無限信靠,從命獻子,為我們的立下了榜樣。也正是因為這樣,上主如是說:“因為你作了這事,沒有顧惜你的獨生子,我必多多祝福你,使你的後裔繁多,如天上的星辰,如海邊的沙粒。你的後裔必佔領他們仇敵的城門;地上萬民要因你的後裔蒙受祝福,因為你聽從了我的話。”(參看:創22:1-19)

讓我們效法亞巴郎的德表,滿懷對天主的無限信靠,在一切事上承行天主的旨意,實踐祂的教導,即使是我們最心愛的人,也願意為天主而捨棄。

在彌撒福音的第二部分(瑪1:7-11)中,瑪竇提及了一位聖王,這位聖王的名字叫達味。在舊約時代中,達味可謂是一個聖王,當撒烏耳被選為王(撒上10:17-27)之後,並因撒烏耳屢次犯罪被天主所廢時,達味仍忠信為保護著撒烏耳(參撒上16:14-23),當他多次遭遇撒烏耳的追殺時,因著他對天主的忠信,天主曾多次將他由兇險的境地解救出來,並立他為以色列的君王,使以色列在達味的治下,並預許給他鴻恩:“當你的日子滿期與你祖先長眠時,我必在你以後興起一個後裔,即你所生的兒子;我必鞏固他的王權。是祂要為我的名建立殿宇;我要鞏固他的王權直到永遠。我要作祂的父親,祂要作我的兒子;若是祂犯了罪,我必用人用的鞭,世人用的棍,來懲戒祂;但我決不由祂收回我的恩情,就如在你以前由撒烏耳收回我的恩情一樣。你的愛室和王權,在我面前永遠存在,你的王位也永遠堅定不移。”(撒下7:12-16)

讓我們效法達味的德表,在一切事上承行天主的旨意,以自己的忠信在眾人面前立好的榜樣,並如同達味一般,善用天主賞賜的智慧,並在生活中不斷稱揚讚頌主。

在今天彌撒福音的第三部分(瑪1:12-17),聖瑪竇記述了以色列子民流徙巴比倫期間的一些有著名人物。在耶苛尼雅為王時,猶太人因為在上主面前行了天主視為惡的事(編下36:11-15),上主曾多次派遣使者警戒他們,為使他們悔改,但他們仍表示自己心硬,拒絕悔改,因此上主將所有的人都交在敵人手中,使他們流徙到巴比倫,並藉一個外邦人的君王 —— 居魯士 —— 的手,向他們施以救恩,准許他們回到耶路撒冷,重建聖殿,直到耶穌基督的來臨。這一切無不彰顯天主對祂特選的民族是何等的仁慈。

讓我們效法居魯士,他雖然是外邦君王,卻忠信于天主,滿懷對天主之愛的無限盼望,妥當預備自己的心神,迎接吾主耶穌基督的降誕。

Gospel: Matthew 1:1-17
Genealogy of Jesus Christ

In the first part of the Gospel of today (Matthew 1:1-6), Matthew mentions Abraham. When Abraham was called by the Lord, the Lord said to him, “Leave your country, your relatives, and your father’s house, and come into the land which I will show you. I will make you into a great nation, and I will bless you, making you fruitful and a source of blessing. I will bless those who bless you, and curse those who curse you; and all the peoples of the earth shall be blessed through you.” (cf. Genesis 12:1-3) Immediately afterwards, Abraham obeyed the Lord’s will. Even when he was old and had children, God, in order to test him, commanded him to take his beloved only son Isaac to the land of Moriah and offer him as a burnt offering on a mountain which He had designated. With firm faith and infinite trust in God, Abraham obeyed and offered his son, setting an example for us. It is precisely for this reason that the Lord said, “Because you have done this and have not spared your only son, I will bless you abundantly and multiply your descendants as the stars of heaven and as the sand on the seashore. Your descendants shall inherit the gate of their enemies; and all the peoples of the earth shall be blessed through your descendants, because you have obeyed My voice.” (cf. Genesis 22:1-19)

Let us emulate the virtue of Abraham, filled with boundless trust in God, and in all things, we will do God’s will, practice His teachings, even if it means sacrificing those we love most for the sake of God.

In the second part of the Gospel of today (Matthew 1:7-11), Matthew mentions a holy king whose name is David. In the Old Testament era, David can be considered a holy king. After Saul was chosen as king (1 Samuel 10:17-27) and was deposed by God due to his repeated transgressions, David remained faithful and protected Saul (cf. 1 Samuel 16:14-23). When he was repeatedly pursued and hunted down by Saul, God, due to his faithfulness to God, repeatedly rescued him from perilous situations and established him as the king of Israel. Under David’s reign, Israel was promised great blessings: “When your days are fulfilled and you rest with your ancestors, I will raise up a descendant after you, the son born to you; I will establish his kingdom. He shall build a temple for my name, and I will establish his kingdom forever. I will be his father, and he shall be my son. If he sins, I will punish him with the rod of men and the staff of the world; but I will not revoke my Favor from him, as I revoked it from Saul before you. Your house and your kingdom shall endure forever before me; your throne shall be established forever.” (2 Samuel 7:12-16)

Let us emulate the virtue of David, fulfilling God’s will in all things, setting a good example before others through our fidelity, and, like David, wisely utilizing the gifts bestowed by God, while constantly praising and glorifying the Lord in our lives.

In the third part of Gospel of today (Matthew 1:12-17), St. Matthew narrates some notable figures during the exile of the Israelites to Babylon. During the reign of Jehoiakim, the Jews had committed evil in the eyes of God before the Lord (2 Chronicles 36:11-15). The Lord sent messengers to warn them repeatedly, urging them to repent, but they remained hardened in their hearts and refused to repent. Therefore, the Lord handed all of them over to their enemies, causing them to be exiled to Babylon, and through the hands of a foreign king, Cyrus, He granted them salvation, allowing them to return to Jerusalem and rebuild the Temple until the coming of Jesus Christ. All of this demonstrates how merciful God is to His chosen people.

Let us imitate Cyrus, who, despite being a foreign king, remained faithful to God, filled with boundless hope for God’s love, and properly prepared his heart and mind to welcome the birth of our Lord Jesus Christ.

我們時常會在生活中經驗到這樣的一個情景:家庭生活中,我們的父母時常會要求我們完成他們願意我們完成的事。比如:當我們結束晚餐的時候,我們的父母希望我們幫助他們收拾碗筷;又如:當我們出門購物的時候,我們的父母願意我們順便採購他們需要的商品;也如:當我們外出旅遊的時候,我們家中的長輩,他們希望我們能給他們捎上當地的出產。

親愛的主內!幾時我們在生活中面對我們的父母向我們吐露的,他們的心願時,我們是如何做的呢?也許我們會爽快地滿足他們的需要,好使他們因我們的同心相愛,如同聖保祿宗徒一般,收穫喜樂。(參看:斐2:2)也許我們會如同耶穌所設比喻中,那個最先來到他父親那裡的兒子一樣(參看:瑪21:28-29)一樣,雖不情願,但思慮再三,仍願意以自己的實際行動,滿足父母的願望,好使他們因我們的謙恭和服從,獲得喜樂。

今天,我們因基督的愛相聚,在彌撒,我們聆聽天主聖言,決心相信,生活中,我們就要活出福音的喜樂,成為如同若翰一樣,忠貞完成天主託付我們完成的使命。

Gospel: Matthew 21:28-32
Obey

We often encounter such a scenario in our daily lives: in family settings, our parents frequently demand that we accomplish tasks they wish us to do. For instance, when we finish dinner, our parents expect us to assist them in clearing the dishes; another example is when we go shopping, they prefer us to purchase items they need; similarly, when we travel, the elders in our family hope we can bring back local produce for them.
Dear brothers and sisters in the faith! When faced with the desires of our parents in life, how do we respond? Perhaps we readily fulfil their needs, so that they may find joy in our mutual love, just as the Apostle Saint Paul did (cf. Phil 2:2). Perhaps we are like the son who first went to his father in the parable Jesus told (cf. Mt 21:28-29), who, though reluctant, after much consideration, was willing to fulfil his parents’ wishes through his practical actions, so that they might find joy in our humility and obedience.
Today, we gather in the love of Christ, and during Mass, we listen to the Word of God, resolving to believe that in life, we must live out the joy of the Gospel, becoming like John, faithfully fulfilling the mission entrusted to us by God.

耶穌的權柄

日常生活中,我們時常會按照我們自己的想法,選擇我們認為正確的方式,採取一切手段,質疑那些按照生活的常識,教導我們各種在此變幻塵世生存下去的技能。有時候,我們也會如同今日前來質問耶穌的司祭長,民間的長老一樣(參看:瑪21:23-25)意圖通過我們認為合宜的方式,向那些在我們看來似乎是威脅的人施壓,並意圖迫使他們放棄自己的立場,使他們順從我們。

生活中,我們決不能如同那些司祭長和民間長老一樣,憑藉屬於這可朽壞軀體的口舌講論,以免我們因此一講論,使自己陷於肉性的妄動,致使我們雖已領受基督的洗禮,歸於基督,我們的靈魂和肉身,仍生活在致人死亡的罪惡之中。當我們講論時,我們應講論天主安置於我們口中的言語,好使我們的思言行為,與我們所領受的一切相符,促使那些與我們來往的人,能透過我們忠於由基督親自建基於聖伯多祿(參看:瑪16:17-19)之上的教會聽到的一切所講論的訓誨,與我們一道,修直上主的行徑,好能迎接吾主耶穌基督的來臨。
