Memorial of Saint Lucy, Virgin and Martyr
Gospel: Matthew 11:16-19
Learn to discern, learn to act

We sometimes encounter the same confusion as the disciples who asked Jesus questions today. Because our lives are often bewitched by various individuals and our own selfish desires, we lose the motivation to pursue eternal happiness and even become sceptical of everything we believe in. This attitude gradually distances us from God and leaves us lost in life as time passes.

Let us constantly observe the work that God has begun within us through contemplation and discern God’s call to us carefully in life. Following the guidance of the Holy Spirit, we should experience God’s love in life, just as Saint Lucy, whom we celebrate today, bravely testified for Christ, living the spirit of the Gospel in our daily lives. This prompts our souls, like Elijah, to always welcome the coming of the Savior, Jesus Christ, and to enter, together with our Lord Christ, into that inaccessible light, where we can behold the radiant faces of the Holy Trinity.

我們有時也會如同那些孩子一樣，表面上看似純潔，就是在行為上顯得十分聖潔，但內心深處卻拒絕為自己所犯的罪與天主重修舊好，覺得自己所做的一切，是如此的心安理得。甚至會覺得那些按照基督教導的一切，善度每日的生活的人是瘋子。（參看：瑪11:18）並按我們屬肉性的眼光看待那些遵照救主的訓示，時時處處向我們宣講福音的人，認為他們似乎是公開罪人的朋友（參看：瑪11:19），而非天主的朋友。以致我們仍生活在罪惡及死亡的權下，而非活於天主恩寵的權下，致使我們憑藉肉性的妄動，導入死亡，而非憑藉對天主聖神的信靠，因隨從天主聖神的引導，導入生命與平安。

今天，教會慶祝瓜達魯貝聖母的自由紀念敬禮日，正是提醒我們：要學會交托，將自己完全交托於天主，在變幻的塵世生活中通過默觀祈禱，聆聽天主的聖言，在自己的內心深處聆聽天主在我們心中與我們的靈魂展開的對話，以實際行動，完全承行天主的聖意，活出福音的喜樂，促使那些與我們朝夕相處的人，也能和我們一樣，充滿喜樂，充滿希望，和我們一起踏上希望的朝聖之途。

今天，教会庆祝瓜达鲁贝圣母的自由纪念敬礼日，正是提醒我们：要学会交托，将自己完全交托于天主，在变幻的尘世生活中通过默观祈祷，聆听天主的圣言，在自己的内心深处聆听天主在我们心中与我们的灵魂展开的对话，以实际行动，完全承行天主的圣意，活出福音的喜乐，促使那些与我们朝夕相处的人，也能和我们一样，充满喜乐，充满希望，和我们一起踏上希望的朝圣之途。

Friday of the Second Week of Advent / Our Lady of Guadalupe
Gospel: Matthew 11:16-19
Be Like Children and Learn to Discern

At times, we are like those children: outwardly we may seem pure and act in a most holy manner, yet deep in our hearts we refuse to reconcile with God for the sins we have committed, feeling perfectly at peace with all that we do. We may even regard those who live each day in accordance with Christ’s teachings as fools (cf. Mt.11:18). Moreover, through our carnal lens, we look upon those who always proclaim the Gospel to us and in all places in keeping with the Savior’s instructions, thinking that they are friends of public sinners (cf. Mt.11:19) rather than friends of God. As a result, we remain under the dominion of sin and death, not under the grace of God. We are led to death by the impulses of our flesh, instead of embracing life and peace through trusting in the Holy Spirit of God and following His guidance.

Today, the Church celebrates the Optional Memorial of Our Lady of Guadalupe, which reminds us of this truth: we must learn to entrust ourselves fully to God. Amid the vicissitudes of earthly life, through contemplative prayer, we should listen to the Word of God and the dialogue that God establishes with our souls deep within us. With concrete actions, we are to fully do the will of God and live out the joy of the Gospel, so that those around us may also be filled with joy and hope and walk with us on the pilgrimage of hope.

當我們尚未認識天主之前，我們也如同生活在舊約中的人們一樣，懷著對永生的渴望，期待救主基督的來臨。當那些蒙主召叫宣講天國福音，使眾人因他們的宣講得以認識基督的兄弟姐妹與我們分享他們由教會聆聽到的一切，並以他們的善言善行為我們立下了榜樣，我們便如同當年聆聽若翰宣講的群眾一般，明白了福音的真諦，清晰分辨出天主的聲音，並信從了福音，歸向了基督，並在天主的教會中領受了基督的聖洗，洗淨了自己的原罪，並在諸聖的相通中，同領了天主聖神，藉這聖神的傅油，我們成了天主的兒女、君王的司祭、上主的先知，我們便有份于向世界宣講天國的福音，引領眾人歸向祂。

親愛的主內！我們僅僅靠司鐸的宣講，以及兄弟姐妹對我們的規勸是遠遠不夠的，只有依靠天主，效法基督，並將自己完全交托於祂，仔細聆聽祂在我們內心深處與我們靈魂的交談，我們才能獲得力量，才能真正棄絕我們自己，引誘我們犯罪的魔鬼，和一切不相宜的思想，成為別人通往基督的途徑。如果我們不能棄絕自己，完全順服基督的教導，如同厄裡亞一般，在生活中承行天主命令我們遵行的一切，我們便如同聾子一般，我們的信仰便是空洞的。因此，身為基督徒的我們，應當時常以天主為我們生活的中心，時常在生活中奉行天主的旨意，實踐祂的教導，才能真正成為一個名符其實的基督徒。

Thursday of Second week of Advent / Pope Saint Damasus I
Gospel: Matthew 11:11-15
The Kingdom of the Messiah

Before we came to know God, we were like the people living in the Old Testament, who, with a longing for eternal life, awaited the coming of the Savior Christ. When our brothers and sisters, whom the Lord has called to proclaim the Gospel of the Kingdom and enable all to know Christ through their preaching, share with us all that they have heard from the Church and set examples for us with their good words and deeds, we, just like the crowds who listened to John’s preaching back then, understand the true meaning of the Gospel, clearly discern God’s voice, believe in the Gospel, turn to Christ, and receive the holy baptism of Christ in God’s Church, washing away our original sin. In the communion of saints, we also partake of the Holy Spirit of God, and through the anointing of this Spirit, we become children of God, royal priests, and prophets of the Lord, thus having a share in proclaiming the Gospel of the Kingdom to the world and leading all people to Him.

Dear brothers and sisters in the Lord! It is far from enough for us to rely only on the preaching of priests and the exhortations of our brothers and sisters. Only by relying on God, imitating Christ, entrusting ourselves entirely to Him, and carefully listening to His conversation with our souls deep within us can we gain strength, truly renounce ourselves, the devil who lures us into sin, and all inappropriate thoughts, and become a way for others to reach Christ. If we cannot renounce ourselves and fully obey Christ’s teachings and carry out all that God has commanded us to do in life like Elijah, we will be like the deaf, and our faith will be empty. Therefore, as Christians, we should always centre our lives on God, constantly do God’s will and practice His teachings in life, so that we can truly be Christians in name and in deed.

我們時常會面對各種各樣的壓力。比如：在校學生，他們會因升學考試，備受壓力；求職者，他們會因長時間找不到工作，面臨經濟上的壓力；上班族，他們會因上司給他們的業績指標，面臨隨時被辭退的壓力。

當我們面對這些壓力的時候，我們會怎麼辦呢？我經常會這樣問那些在信仰上託付給我的兄弟姐妹，他們中間，有些人會說：我願意自己來扛這些壓力；還有些人說：我曾試圖扛住這些壓力，但是，我發現憑我自己的力量，無法解決，所以我選擇躺平了。這就是我們不得不面對的常態。

今天，耶穌對我們說：“你們，凡勞苦和負重擔的，到我這裡來，我要賜給你們安息。”（參看：瑪11:28）祂邀請我們把我們的壓力釋放出來，與祂分享我們的勞苦，那些壓得我們喘不過氣來的事情，以及我們內心深處的苦悶，祂在那裡，靜靜地等待我們，靜靜地聆聽我們的抱怨。祂更願意與我們分擔這一切。使我們因祂的仁慈，獲得片刻的喘息。

接著，耶穌對我們說：拿起我的軛，跟我學吧，因為我是良善心謙的；你們必要為你們找到安息。（參看：瑪11:29）祂邀請我們向祂學習，效法祂，只追求天主賞賜給我們的一切美善，使那無窮美善的天主改變我們，使我們的內心，不再充斥世俗給我們帶來的各種壓力，各種考驗，而是充滿祂對我們施予的慈愛，好使我們不再試圖憑我們自己的力量解決各種各樣的問題，而是隨從天主聖神的引導，按照天主聖神的指引，直面各種各樣的問題，賴天主聖神的恩典，解決這些問題。

讓我們效法洛雷托聖母，學會向天主交托自己，慷慨承行天主的聖意。

Wednesday of the Second Week of Advent / Our Lady of Loretto
Gospel: Matthew 11:28-30
Learn to entrust

We often encounter various forms of pressure. For instance, students in school may feel pressured by entrance exams; job seekers may face financial pressure due to prolonged unemployment; and office workers may be under the constant threat of dismissal due to performance indicators set by their superiors.

When confronted with these pressures, what do we do? I often ask my brothers and sisters who entrust their faith to me this question. Among them, some say, “I am willing to bear these pressures on my own;” while others say, “I have tried to bear these pressures, but I found that I cannot resolve them with my own strength, so I choose to lay low.” This is the normal state we have to face.

Today, Jesus speaks to us: “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.” (cf. Mt 11:28) He invites us to unburden ourselves, to share with him our toils, the things that weigh us down, and the anguish deep within our hearts. He is there, quietly waiting for us, silently listening to our complaints. He is more than willing to share all these with us, allowing us to find a momentary respite through his mercy.

Next, Jesus said to us: “Take my yoke and learn from me, for I am meek and humble of heart; and you will find rest for yourselves.” (cf. Mt 11:29) He invites us to learn from him, to imitate him, and to pursue only the goodness that God has bestowed upon us, so that the infinitely good God may transform us, so that our hearts are no longer filled with the pressures and trials brought by the world, but are filled with his mercy towards us, so that we no longer attempt to solve various problems in our own strength, but follow the guidance of the Holy Spirit of God, face various problems according to the guidance of the Holy Spirit of God, and solve these problems by the grace of the Holy Spirit of God.

Let us imitate Our Lady of Loreto, learning to entrust ourselves to God and generously carry out His holy will.
