Mark 3: 13-19

The Gospel today inspires us through the call and mission of the twelve apostles. Jesus’ invitation, which starts with a few and expands into a community, reminds us of our own call to discipleship and mission. This passage encourages us to renew our lives as followers of the Lord in this Jubilee Year.

Jesus calls his apostles for a twofold mission: to be with Him and to be sent out. This dual purpose defines our Christian vocation and identity as well. To be with Jesus involves cultivating a relationship with Him through prayer, reflection, and community. It is an invitation to ascend the mountain, as Jesus did, to encounter God intimately. The apostles’ journey to the mountain mirrors Moses’ encounter with God, urging us to prioritise our time – to walk with him, to go up the mountains of prayer and solitude.

Equally important is the mission to go out, proclaiming the Good News and standing against the powers of evil that alienate and oppress. This mission challenges us to bring hope to the poor, the marginalised, and the broken-hearted, just as Jesus and His apostles did. It reminds us that faith and action go hand in hand.

The apostles, personally handpicked by the Lord, reflect the unique and personal nature of the Lord’s call to each of us. Just as the apostles were named from a lineage rich in meaning, so too are we called by name to participate in the Mission of the Lord.

As Pilgrims of Hope, let us embrace the apostolic call: to be rooted in Christ and to bring His light to the world. Let us pray for strength to journey faithfully as a forming, missionary, and hope-filled community.

聖父吸引受困的人,好使他們獲得力量

今天的福音經文講述了一大群人,從四面八方而來,滿懷熱情和渴望,追隨基督。這群人感到自己處在急難中,受好奇心或信仰的驅使,他們來聽祂的聖言,尋求醫治。他們滿懷熱忱,追隨基督,並不是他們自己精心策劃的,而是聖父藉著聖神吸引他們到耶穌跟前。同一個天主也吸引著每個真正踏上旅途的基督徒的心。

耶穌對群眾所作的回應顯示了祂溫柔的心。祂把他們看作是“沒有牧人的羊。”祂對他們對了憐憫之情,醫治他們,以權威教導他們。然而,這個與耶穌相遇的瞬間,不只是一個受到安慰的時刻,這標誌著一個更深層次鬥爭的開始。

這段福音經文表明:基督徒的生活就是一個戰場。聖父吸引我們走向耶穌的時候,邪惡之神予以抵制,向我們的心發動戰爭。對於那些真正渴望追隨基督的人而言,這樣的衝突,不可避免。正如聖保祿宗徒提醒我們的那樣:信仰就是每日的爭戰,我們必須警惕,必須祈禱,並要有棄絕邪惡帝國的勇氣。沒有誘惑或內在的衝突的生活,就不是基督徒的生活,而是自滿的幻覺。

不潔之神,因天主的臨在,戰戰兢兢,但是,它們依然不知疲倦地工作,阻止我們被天主所吸引。我們的內心是否感受到這種掙扎?我們是否感受到天父的吸引和那惡者的抵抗?我們是否相信,我們的生命使耶穌的心受到觸動?

作為希望的朝聖者,讓我們以信德接受爭戰,讓我們明白:耶穌與我們一起,並肩作戰。聖父,求禰使我們每天更接聽耶穌。求禰在我每日的爭戰中堅固我,幫助我相信禰永不停止召叫我的愛。亞孟。

Thursday of the Second Week in Ordinary Time
Mark 3:7-12
Drawn by the Father, Strengthened for the Struggle

The Gospel speaks of a great multitude that followed Jesus with fervour and longing, drawn from far and wide. These people, moved by need, curiosity, or faith, journeyed to hear His words and seek healing. Their enthusiasm was not orchestrated; it was the Father who drew them to Jesus through the Holy Spirit. This same divine drawing is the heartbeat of every authentic Christian journey.

Jesus’ response to the crowd reveals His tender heart. Seeing them as “sheep without a shepherd,” He is moved with compassion, healing and teaching with authority. But this encounter with Jesus is no mere moment of comfort; it marks the beginning of a deeper struggle.

The Gospel shows that the Christian life is a battlefield. While the Father draws us toward Jesus, the spirit of evil resists, waging war against our hearts. This conflict is inescapable for those who truly seek to follow Christ. As St. Paul reminds us, faith is a daily struggle, requiring vigilance, prayer, and the courage to reject the empire of sin. A life without temptations or inner conflict is not a Christian life but an illusion of complacency.

The unclean spirits tremble in God’s presence, yet they also work tirelessly to deter us from being drawn to Him. Do we feel this struggle in our hearts? Do we sense the pull of the Father and the resistance of evil? Do we believe that our lives move the heart of Jesus?

As pilgrims of hope, let us embrace the struggle with faith, knowing that Jesus fights alongside us. Father, draw me closer to Jesus each day. Strengthen me in the daily struggle and help me trust in Your love that never ceases to call me. Amen.

在今天的福音反思中,我們偕同耶穌一起經過衝突的核心:愛和生命與僵化的律法主義進行對抗。這段經文邀請我們:作為希望的朝聖者,我們要怎樣才能如同初期的基督徒那樣,面對把規則置於同情之上的體系的時候,要怎樣從基督的德表中找到勇氣。

在一個安息日,在會堂裡,耶穌治好了一個手枯的人。與此同時,宗教當局仔細審查祂是否違背安息日的法律,耶穌大膽地把那人擺到團體的核心,耶穌以自己的行動表明:天主愛所有人,在天主的大家庭中,所有人都有自己的一席之地。

耶穌讓那人“起來,站到中間”,不僅使那人的手復原,祂還恢復了他原有的尊嚴。讓那人站起來的呼召,也是新生命的呼召,也是提醒我們:要從削弱生命和希望的體系中解脫出來。我們作為希望的朝聖者,也時常面臨挑戰,但是,我們要效法耶穌,棄絕一切為了制定嚴苛的規定,犧牲人類福祉的意識形態。

耶穌提出的問題:“在安息日,行善合法,還是傷害合法,救人性命合法,還是殺人合法?”這戳穿了那些反對祂的人的心,揭露了看重傳統勝過愛的虛偽體系。耶穌的憤怒和悲傷與那些因不義結構,備受痛苦之人的心聲,祂敦促我們以同情和勇毅之心行事。

生命之主,求禰賜給我們勇氣,使我們在正義和良善的立場上站穩,把愛置於萬有之上。亞孟。

Wednesday of week 2 in Ordinary Time
Mark 3:1-6
Called to Life in the Centre of the Community

In today’s Gospel reflection, we journey with Jesus through the heart of conflict, where love and life confront rigid legalism. This passage invites us, as pilgrims of hope, to consider how we, like the early Christians, can find courage in Christ’s example when faced with systems that prioritise rules over compassion.

On a Sabbath day, Jesus heals a man with a withered hand in the synagogue. While the religious authorities scrutinise Him for any breach of Sabbath law, Jesus boldly places the man at the centre of the community, declaring through His actions that every person is beloved and has a rightful place in God’s family.

By asking the man to “get up and stand in the middle,” Jesus not only restores his hand but resurrects his dignity. The call to rise is a call to new life, a reminder that the Gospel liberates us from systems that diminish life and hope. As pilgrims of hope, we are challenged to emulate Jesus by rejecting any ideology that sacrifices human well-being for the sake of rigid rules.

Jesus’ question—“Is it lawful to do good or to do harm on the Sabbath, to save life or to kill?”—pierces the hearts of His opponents, revealing the hypocrisy of a system that values tradition over love. His anger and grief echo the pain of all who suffer under unjust structures, urging us to act with compassion and courage.

Lord of life, give us the courage to stand for what is good and just, placing love above all else. Amen.

這段福音經文邀請我們理解天主法律更深層次的意涵,尤其是安息日更深層次的意涵。因為耶穌揭示了天主法律的真正含義:天主的法律不是一個僵化的規則,而是一個意在服務生命,愛和手足情誼的恩典。

耶穌與法利賽人對峙,因為法利賽人指摘祂的門徒在安息日摘玉米。耶穌追憶達味在急難中所做的一切(參看:撒上21:2-7)突顯了人類的急需(饑餓,尊嚴,生命)替代法律主義。法律的目的,在於使人類得到提升,而非給人類增加負擔。耶穌宣告,祂是“安息日的主”,這突顯了天主的旨意,祂尋求的是仁慈,公義,而非只是在禮儀上順從天主。

安息日是猶太人的身份標誌,尤其是受壓迫的時期,比如馬加伯起義的時候。然而,耶穌從天主之愛的幅度,重新詮釋了安息日。為耶穌而言,忠信於天主的法律,這意味著要優先考慮所有人的福祉,也反映了天主接納眾人,把眾人看作祂心愛的孩子。

讓我們對天主所做的一切,充滿感激之情,祈求天主賞賜我們恩典:使安息日成為更新,憐憫和愛的時刻。

The Sabbath: A call to be Rooted in Love and Mercy

The Gospel challenges us to understand the deeper purpose of God’s law, particularly the Sabbath, as Jesus reveals its true meaning: It is not a rigid rule but a gift meant to serve life, love, and fraternity.

Jesus confronts the Pharisees, who criticise His disciples for plucking corn on the Sabbath. By recalling David’s actions in a moment of need (1 Sam 21:2-7), Jesus emphasises that human needs—hunger, dignity, and life—supersede legalism. The law is meant to uplift humanity, not burden it. Jesus’ proclamation as “Lord of the Sabbath” highlights the divine will, which seeks mercy, justice, and inclusion over mere ritual compliance.

The Sabbath was a sign of Jewish identity, especially during times of oppression, such as the Maccabean revolt. However, Jesus reinterprets it through the lens of God’s love. For Jesus, fidelity to God’s law means prioritising the well-being of all people, reflecting God’s acceptance of each person as a beloved child.

This message calls us to examine areas in our lives where rigid adherence to rules may overshadow love, mercy, or the dignity of others. Are there moments where compassion takes a backseat to ideology? How can we follow Jesus’ example, ensuring that our faith practices serve life and community?

The passage also reminds us of the importance of immersing ourselves in God’s Word, not just as a rulebook but as a living guide to deepen our relationship with Him and others. Like Jesus, may we root our actions in love, always placing the law at the service of life and fraternity.

Let us pray with gratitude for God’s deeds and ask for the grace to live the Sabbath as a time of renewal, mercy, and love.
