Monday of the Fourth Week in Ordinary Time
Or Optional Memorial of Saint Blaise, Bishop and Martyr
Or Optional Memorial of Saint Ansgar, Bishop

Mark 5: 1-20
God sets you free

As pilgrims of hope, we journey together toward healing and renewal, guided by the loving hand of our Lord. The story of the man who emerged from the tombs challenges us to examine our own lives. Are we living in isolation, clinging to lifeless memories of the past? God invites us to leave the tombs behind—to embrace the present and look forward to the life He offers. Isolation and dwelling on the past rob us of the joy and purpose of living fully in God’s grace.

The unclean spirits in the Gospel remind us of the dangers of living in environments of spiritual filth—places of gossip, impurity, and sin. These places trap us in habits that harm our souls and prevent growth. If you find yourself in such situations, do not hesitate to step away. Cutting ties with what soils your heart and mind is a necessary step toward true freedom. God desires to cleanse us, to pull us out of these pigsties, and to lead us to lives of purity and holiness.

The story also shows us the power of God’s healing. The possessed man, once broken and isolated, is restored to health and reintegrated into his community. This is God’s plan for each of us—to heal our wounds, restore our dignity, and help us rediscover our place in the Body of Christ. Your life has immense value, and God calls you to walk this journey of hope as part of His family.

As we walk together as pilgrims, let us remember that our ultimate goal is heaven. Fix our eyes on Christ, trust in His healing, and embrace the life of grace He offers. May we journey together in hope, for with God, every day is a new beginning.

Presentation of the Lord – World Day of Consecrated Life
Luke 2:22-40
God has consecrated us and set us apart

The Gospel of Luke recounts the Presentation of Jesus in the Temple, where Mary and Joseph fulfil the Law of Moses by offering their son to God. This feast reminds us of three key lessons for our faith and families today.

First, the Holy Family’s obedience to the Law of the Lord highlights their harmony with God’s Word. Amid poverty and challenges, they lived in tune with divine will. Their example calls us to centre our families on God, trusting His Word to guide us through life’s trials.

Second, the presentation teaches us that children are not possessions but gifts entrusted to us by God. Mary and Joseph, despite their hopes for Jesus, surrendered Him to God’s greater plan. Parents today are invited to dedicate their children to God, nurturing them to fulfil God’s plans and purposes for them.

Third, the simplicity of the Holy Family’s offering—a pair of pigeons—shows that Jesus was born among the poor. This humbling reality invites us to draw close to Christ, who identifies with our struggles.

Simeon and Anna, filled with the Holy Spirit, recognise the infant Jesus as the Messiah. Their lives of faith and patient waiting embody hope and trust in God’s promises. Simeon’s song, a prayer of peaceful surrender, reminds us that a life lived for God brings true fulfilment. Anna’s unwavering worship for eight decades represents the faithful remnant who awaits the coming of God’s intervention with joy.

Mary and Joseph’s joy in fulfilling the Law reflects a deep and loving relationship with God, while Simeon and Anna’s openness to the Holy Spirit reveals the vitality of a life rooted in faith. This encounter also mirrors consecrated life: a meeting with Christ that transforms us. Through the Church and the charisms of our religious communities, we encounter Christ, recognise Him, and embrace His mission. May the Holy Spirit guide us to joyfully live our vocation, fostering unity and openness to the voice of God, as we continue our journey together.

Coffee with God: February 1, 2025

Saturday of the Third Week in Ordinary Time
Or 184 Blessed Claretian Martyrs
Mark 4: 35-41

Why are you afraid?

On February 1, we honour the 184 Blessed Claretian Martyrs who gave their lives during persecutions in Mexico and Spain. This date also marks the anniversary of the attack against St. Anthony Mary Claret in Holguín, Cuba. The martyrs’ unwavering faith, missionary zeal, and forgiveness of their executioners inspire us to live our vocation with fidelity and love for the Church.

In today’s Gospel (Mk 4:35-41), Jesus calms the storm that threatens to overwhelm the disciples’ boat. Despite his presence, they are consumed by fear and cry out: “Teacher, do you not care if we perish?” (v. 38). Like them, we too experience storms in life—moments of loss, anxiety, or unexpected challenges—that make us feel as though we are sinking. We may question why God seems silent in our struggles, yet the Gospel reminds us of an essential truth: Jesus is always with us.

Even when Jesus appears to be “asleep,” he is present, sharing in our trials and waiting for us to turn to him. His stillness tests and strengthens our faith, calling us to cry out to him in prayer. True discipleship demands more than acknowledging God’s presence—it requires us to actively trust him, to share our fears and struggles with him, and to rely on his guidance.

Faith begins with recognising our dependence on God and acknowledging that we cannot navigate life’s storms alone. Jesus, when approached by the disciples, calms the wind and waves, showing that he is our refuge and strength. His question, “Why are you afraid? Have you no faith?” (v. 40), challenges us to shift our focus from fear to trust.

In this Jubilee Year, let us renew our commitment to seek the Lord daily, casting our concerns into his loving care. May Mary, who trusted unreservedly in God, inspire us to place our lives in his hands with confidence. As we reflect on the sacrifice of the Blessed Claretian Martyrs, may their intercession strengthen us to persevere in faith, serve with generosity, and be inflamed by the fire of God’s love. Blessed Claretian Martyrs, pray for us!

Coffee with God: January 31, 2025

St. John Bosco
Mark 4: 26-34
Faithful Patience

In this year of Jubilee, the Gospel reminds us of the Kingdom of God through the image of the seed (cf. Mk 4:26-34). Jesus often speaks of the seed, and today, he highlights a vital virtue: confident expectation.

A farmer sows seeds with care, but growth requires time and patience. Beneath the surface, a miraculous transformation occurs unseen as the seeds sprout and mature into a fruitful harvest. This process calls for trust in God’s timing and diligent care, even when immediate results are not visible.

The Kingdom of God unfolds in a similar way. The Lord sows abundant seeds of his Word and grace within us, patiently nurturing their growth. His divine patience allows us the time and space to mature, bearing the fruit of good works. In this Jubilee year, we are reminded that God desires all of us to grow into the fullness of His love, ensuring that no seed is lost.

This example of patient care is a call for us to sow the Gospel wherever we are, with confidence and perseverance. Even when progress is invisible, the Lord invites us to trust that the miracle of transformation is already underway. We must resist discouragement and remain steadfast in supporting one another in faith, trusting that God’s grace is always at work.

In this Jubilee, we ask: Do we welcome the Word into our hearts? Do we sow the Gospel confidently in our lives? Can we wait with hope, entrusting the results to the Lord?

May the Blessed Virgin Mary, who received and nurtured the Word within her, inspire us to be patient and faithful Sowers of the Gospel, trusting in God’s promise of abundant harvest in His time.
