Mark 7:24-30
A Mother’s Faith

In today’s Gospel, we witness the incredible power of faith, love, and persistence. It begins with Jesus, who longs for rest. Just as we often need some time for ourselves, so did Jesus. Yet, Jesus could not remain unseen. He gives up His time to rest in order to heal, comfort, and relieve. This self-giving generosity is a model for our Christian life, reminding us to set aside our own needs to be present for others. God calls us to bring healing and love—to offer a kind word, a compassionate look, a listening ear, or a gentle embrace that can soothe deep wounds and bring hope.

We then encounter the powerful faith of a mother. This woman, though not a follower of Jesus, falls at His feet in humility and love for her child. How many parents sacrifice their time, energy, and pride to ensure the well-being of their sons and daughters? Whether working extra hours, enduring long nights in hospitals, or simply offering steady support, their love mirrors the love of God—unconditional and selfless.

The mother’s faith shows us the importance of perseverance in prayer. She pleads with Jesus, not giving up despite initial resistance. Her persistence is an act of trust, knowing that God can do what she cannot. This is a call to all of us: never stop praying. Trust that God hears us and works in His time to make all things new.

May God grant us the faith of this mother and the generosity of Jesus. Help us to persist in prayer and give us a generous heart to bring healing and love to others. Through the intercession of Mary our Mother, may we grow in faith and selfless love.

Wednesday of the Fifth Week in Ordinary Time
Mark 7: 14-23
Change from Within

The journey of faith always begins with a transformation—not from the outside, but from within. True change is not about fixing the world around us but allowing God to work in the depths of our hearts.

We often focus on the exterior—the people, circumstances, and situations that surround us. When life doesn’t go our way, we’re tempted to blame others, using them as scapegoats for our frustrations and negativity. This approach is dangerous and unjust. It blinds us to our own need for change and risks harming those around us. Take a moment to reflect: Am I venting my internal struggles onto others? Be mindful of this tendency and ask for God’s grace to confront what’s within.

The true work of transformation happens in the interior. This is where Jesus longs to dwell, not to condemn us but to illuminate us with His love and truth. Often, we judge others through the lens of our own weaknesses, failing to see their goodness. Instead of taking the time to know others deeply, we rely on shallow impressions. How crucial it is to fill our hearts with God! His love empowers us to live with compassion, objectivity, and strength. When we discover God within us, we can share Him with hearts that are empty or burdened. Remember, no matter what, God never abandons you—He loves you infinitely.

Finally, there are things in life that will not change. These are the crosses we must bear and learn to endure. Let us pray for the patience to handle these challenges and grow through them.
Let us ask our Blessed Mother to help us to change from within. Teach us patience and guide us to endure life’s challenges with grace.

Our Lady of Lourdes
Mark 7:1-13
A Life Bound to God

Today, as we celebrate the memorial of the Apparitions of Our Lady to St. Bernadette in Lourdes, we are reminded of the beauty of a life bound to God. In her simplicity and faith, St. Bernadette teaches us how to respond to God’s call with humility and love.

Belonging to the Catholic faith is our response to God’s invitation to draw closer to Him. It is not merely a set of practices, but a way of life—a journey back to God. Encountering Jesus changes everything. It transforms us and has the power to touch the lives of those around us. To live our faith is to be continually bound to God, who is the source of all love and hope.

In this relationship with God, rules and norms take on their true meaning. Just as lovers express their love through gestures, so too do we show our love for God through prayer, the sacraments, and devotions like the Rosary. These are not burdens but acts of love that strengthen our bond with Him. Think of marriage: without small acts of love, the relationship can grow distant. The same applies to our relationship with God.

However, we must be cautious not to let religious practices become mere obligations. When structure turns into structuralism, it can suffocate rather than uplift. Religion is meant to lead us to God, not to burden us. The heart of faith lies in speaking openly to God, sharing our joys, struggles, and desires with Him. Structure is good when it guides us, but it must never overshadow the freedom we enjoy as God’s beloved children.

Let us learn from Our Lady of Lourdes to bring others to God, not through rigidity, but through love, tenderness, and freedom. Blessed Mother, draw us closer to your Son. Teach us to love Him through prayer, acts of devotion, and a life rooted in faith. Amen.

Memorial of Saint Scholastica, Virgin
Mark 6: 53-56
Touch and be healed

As Pilgrims of Hope in this sacred Year of Jubilee, we are reminded of our mission to follow Jesus with courage, love, and compassion.

Jesus does not remain still; He crosses to the other side, always moving toward those in need. As Christians, we are called to do the same. We cannot stay where it is comfortable or safe; we must go out into the world and reach out to others. Like the disciples, we are sent without delay, without excuses. Even if doors are slammed in our faces, we must persevere, for many souls long for the hope and love of God. Our faith compels us to go forth with enthusiasm, carrying the light of Christ to our brothers and sisters.

The story of the woman who touched Jesus’ cloak reminds us of the power of love and proximity. Her touch came from deep need, a longing to be healed. But true healing happens when we recognise that we are loved by God. Jesus heals with tenderness, closeness, and compassion. As His followers, we too must show tenderness and care to those who suffer, offering a kind word, a listening ear, or a gentle gesture that brings the warmth of Christ’s love.

Finally, we must seek healing from Jesus ourselves so that we can bring healing to others. There are many who carry deep wounds in their hearts—loneliness, resentment, despair. True poverty is not only material; it is the absence of hope and love. Let us follow Jesus, become instruments of His compassion, and help save lives by sharing His love.

Blessed Mother, guide us to follow your Son with courage and love. Teach us to cross boundaries, offer healing, and bring hope to those in need. Amen.
