Fifteenth Sunday in Ordinary Time
Luke 10:25-37
Go and do likewise

On this Sunday, Jesus leads us once more along a familiar yet challenging road—from Jerusalem to Jericho—not just in geography, but in spirit. The parable of the Samaritan, often softened by the adjective “good,” is not merely about kindness. It is about recognising the gaze of God in the most unexpected person, and discovering in that gaze the path to eternal life.

The lawyer’s question—“What must I do to inherit eternal life?”—is not trivial. It is the most important question anyone can ask. He was not seeking more years on earth, but the kind of life that lasts, the life that flows from God Himself. Jesus, true to the wisdom of the rabbis, turns the question back to him: What does the Torah say? The scholar answers well: love God with your whole being, and love your neighbour as yourself.

But then comes the real twist: Who is my neighbour? In the world of that time, the neighbour was often limited to one’s kin, tribe, or nation. Jesus refuses that boundary. He answers not with a theory, but with a story—a man robbed and left half-dead, and three travellers: a priest, a Levite, and a Samaritan.

The priest and Levite “see” but do not stop. Perhaps they feared ritual impurity. Perhaps they justified their inaction with duty or fatigue. But in truth, they missed the very heart of the Law they studied: mercy.

Then comes the Samaritan—the heretic, the outsider, the enemy. He, too, sees. But his gaze is different. The Gospel uses the rare verb splagchnizomai—he was moved with compassion, a word reserved almost exclusively for God or Christ in the Scriptures. This Samaritan becomes the image of God’s mercy, not because he had the right religion or rituals, but because he saw the suffering man with the eyes of the Eternal.

What distinguishes him is not sentimentality, but action. He stops, draws near, binds wounds, pours oil and wine, carries the man, and pays for his healing. Each of his ten actions echoes the healing mercy of God, who does not count the cost. The Samaritan becomes a neighbour, not because of bloodline, but because of love.

Jesus’ final question flips everything: “Which of these three became a neighbour?” The scholar cannot even utter “Samaritan”—he simply says, “the one who showed mercy.” Jesus replies: “Go and do likewise.”

This parable is a mirror. It asks us: whom do we see? And how do we look? Is our gaze that of the priest, the Levite—distanced, guarded, selective? Or is it the gaze of the Samaritan—attentive, tender, risk-taking?

To love like the Samaritan is to love like God. Where love is found—especially love that crosses barriers and sacrifices comfort—there is God. So today, the road from Jerusalem to Jericho passes through our own lives. And someone is lying by the roadside. The question is no longer, “Who is my neighbour?” but, “Will I become one?”

Let us go and do likewise.

今天的福音經文給我們帶來的聖言，我們必須牢記：“不要害怕。”耶穌說了三次，而不是一次。這不是建議，而是邀請，是說給那些被派往一個會抵制他們的世界的門徒說的。祂讓他們，也讓我們為福傳做好準備：放膽宣講祂的王國，即使世界試圖讓我們不語，依然宣講。

耶穌提到的第一個挑戰就是：淡化福音，使福音易於被接受，對人有更低要求。我們也經常會面對這樣的壓力： 要求我們安靜，融入其中，避免講出令人不適的真理。但是，耶穌告訴我們：“我在暗中告訴你們的，要在明處講出來。”讓我們用清晰，謙遜和勇氣宣講基督，不憑我們自己和意識形態講論，而是憑生活的基督講論。

其次，耶穌談到了迫害。這不會離我們很遙遠。每一代基督徒都會因他們的信仰遭到迫害，有些人遭到了微妙的迫害，有些人則受到了暴力的迫害。今天，許多人殉道，只是因為他們屬於基督。耶穌提醒我們：不要怕那能殺害身體，但不能殺害靈魂的。我們的生命不在有權有勢之人的手中，而是在天主的手中。

第三個試探也許是最難的：感覺天主拋棄了我們。甚至耶穌在十字架上也感覺到這樣的痛苦。但是，祂教導我們要相信。聖父不會忘記任何一隻麻雀；祂決不會忘記你。

讓我們在祈禱中與天主親近。讓我們不要害怕為真理，愛和希望作見證。瑪利亞，她一生中，每時每刻相信天主，願她幫助我們也這樣相信天主。

讓我們鼓起勇氣前行。

Saturday of the Fourteenth Week in Ordinary Time
Matthew 10:24-33
“Do Not Be Afraid”

Today’s Gospel brings us words that we must carry close to our hearts: “Do not be afraid.” Jesus says it not once, but three times. It is not a suggestion—it is an invitation, spoken to disciples sent out into a world that will resist them. He prepares them, and us, for mission: to proclaim His Kingdom with boldness, even when the world tries to silence us.

The first challenge Jesus names is the temptation to water down the Gospel—to make it more acceptable, less demanding. We face this often: the pressure to be quiet, to blend in, to avoid speaking uncomfortable truths. But Jesus tells us: “What I tell you in the dark, speak in the light.” Let us proclaim Christ—not ourselves, not ideologies, but the living Jesus—with clarity, humility, and courage.

Second, He speaks of persecution. This is not a remote possibility. In every generation, Christians suffer for their faith—some in subtle ways, others in violent ones. Today, many are martyred simply for belonging to Christ. Jesus reminds us: Do not fear those who kill the body but cannot kill the soul. Our lives are not in the hands of the powerful, but in the hands of God.

The third trial is perhaps the hardest: the feeling that God has abandoned us. Even Jesus knew this anguish on the cross. But He teaches us to trust. The Father does not forget a single sparrow; He certainly will not forget you.

Let us stay close to God in prayer. Let us not be afraid of being witnesses—witnesses of truth, of love, of hope. And may Mary, who trusted God in every moment of her life, help us to do the same.

Let us go forward with courage.

耶穌沒有給我們隱瞞真相：我們會遭到反對，甚至會遭到那最親近我們之人的反對。“一個兄弟要交出自己兄弟。”祂這樣說，不是為了嚇唬我們，而要為準備我們。我們蒙召，就是要變得如同鴿子一樣純樸，如同蛇一樣機警。我們必須小心和謙卑，總不因我們的善行或所受到的祝福而自誇，因為在教會和家庭內，總有人因嫉妒而受傷。

但是，我們並不生活在恐懼中。我們生活在信賴中，我們相信那能洞悉一切的天主。如果你遭到批評，背叛，或被人誤解。要記住一點：你說過的話，你默默無聞的服務，都是為天主的國而服務。當有人反對你的時候，不要讓痛苦在你的心中紮根。你反而要使這樣的痛苦引你進到天主的懷抱。

我們在哪裡才能找到忍耐的力量？在祈禱中。常常在祈禱中。宗徒並不是一個常常抗爭的人，而是一個總不停止祈禱的人。與天主保持交談，祂像一個在你身邊的朋友一樣。當你身處黑暗時刻的時候，就要回到祈禱的真光之中。在那裡，你將會重新振作起來。

我們蒙召，不要去走一條容易的道路，而是踏上一條有意義的道路。即使有人會把我們交出，上主永遠不會讓我們離開。要堅強，要警醒。要紮根於祈禱中。常常記得：即使是在試探中，天主依然在工作，祂使創傷變成智慧，把抗爭變成聖潔。

讓我們一起前行，充滿希望。

A brother hands over a brother

Jesus does not hide the truth from us: we will face opposition, even from those closest to us. “A brother will hand over his brother,” he says—not to scare us, but to prepare us. As Christians, we cannot be naïve. We are called to walk with the simplicity of doves but also with the prudence of serpents. We must be careful and humble, never flaunting our good works or blessings, for there are always hearts wounded by envy, even within the Church, even within families.

But we do not live in fear. We live in trust—trust in God who sees and knows all. If you experience criticism, betrayal, or misunderstanding, remember this: you are not working for the approval of others. You are working for the Kingdom of God. Your mission, your words, your quiet service—all of it is for His greater glory. Don’t let bitterness take root in your heart when others are against you. Instead, let that pain draw you deeper into the arms of God.

And where do we find the strength to endure? In prayer. Always in prayer. An apostle is not one who never struggles, but one who never stops praying. Keep talking to God, like a friend walking beside you. In your moments of darkness, return to the light of prayer. That is where your courage will be renewed.

We are not called to an easy path, but to a meaningful one. Even when others hand us over, the Lord never lets us go. Be strong. Be watchful. Be rooted in prayer. And always remember: even in the trials, God is at work—turning wounds into wisdom, and struggle into sanctity.

Let us go forward, together, in hope.

今天，福音提醒我們，我們的使命：宣講天國的福音，並去醫治。這兩個是獨立的行動，而是一個完整的使命。耶穌本人就是國度 —— 祂是我們心中渴望的生命，真理與和平。我們是祂的門徒，我們蒙召通過以自己的言語，以自己的生活，以此彰顯祂的臨在。

但是，讓我們問問自己：人們看到我們的時候，他們是否看到了基督？我們經常談論規則，卻忘記談論了耶穌。我們常常為教義辯護，但沒有表現出慈悲的面容。我們不是宗教的銷售員。我們是生活的耶穌的見證人。

我們也有醫治的力量 —— 我們不只是醫生或輔導員，也是給他人帶去和平，喜樂和憐憫的男女。一個微笑，一句好話，一隻傾聽人的耳朵，比任何藥物更能治癒。每當我們的心與基督同在，我們就會成為祂溫柔的手，伸出扶起破碎的人，使疲倦的人，煥然一新。

但是，我們不能施捨我們沒有的東西。我們需要內心的平安，給別人帶去平安。我們需要消除那些並非出自天主的事物，就是：怨恨，驕傲，流言蜚語，嫉妒。今天，求耶穌潔淨你的心，使你的生命成為祂愛的器皿。

我們的洗禮使我們成為傳教士。不要等待成聖的許可。不要等到感覺良好才去談論耶穌。帶著祂的喜樂，祂的平安，祂的醫治出去。這個世界受到創傷，但是，我們並不是無能為力的。有了耶穌，你的生活就能給許多人帶去光明和安慰。讓我們去宣講。讓我們去，去醫治。

Thursday of the Fourteenth Week in Ordinary Time
Matthew 10: 7-15
Proclaim and Heal

Today, the Gospel reminds us of our mission: to proclaim the Kingdom of God and to heal. These are not two separate actions, but one vocation lived in fullness. Jesus himself is the Kingdom—he is the Life, the Truth, and the Peace our hearts long for. And we, as his disciples, are called to make his presence known through our words and, above all, through our lives.

But let us ask ourselves: do people see Christ when they see us? Too often we’ve spoken of rules and forgotten to speak of Jesus. Too often we’ve defended doctrines without showing the face of Mercy. We are not salesmen of religion. We are witnesses of a living Person.

We also have the power to heal—not just as doctors or counsellors, but as men and women who bring peace, joy, and compassion to others. A smile, a kind word, a listening ear can be more healing than any medicine. When we live with Christ in our hearts, we become his gentle hands reaching out to lift the broken and restore the weary.

But we cannot give what we do not have. We need peace in our hearts to bring peace to others. We need to be cleansed of what does not come from God—resentments, pride, gossip, envy. Ask Jesus today to purify your heart, so your life becomes a vessel of his love.

Our baptism has made us missionaries. Don’t wait for permission to be holy. Don’t wait to feel perfect to speak about Jesus. Go out. Bring his joy, his peace, his healing. The world is wounded, but we are not powerless. With Jesus, your life can be light and balm for many.

Let us go and proclaim. Let us go and heal.
