初期的将临期

在今天的福音经文中，耶稣谈论一个优秀的老师和精湛的工匠。当祂描述两位建筑师）（一个聪明，一个愚蠢）时，祂不只引用圣经中的话，也借鉴祂在日常劳动中的经验。在巴勒斯坦，一条沙质峡谷在旱季可能显得平静无波，但在冬季却会变成汹涌的河流。目光短浅的建筑师可能会选择平坦的地基，避免费力挖掘至岩石层。但唯有建立在基岩之上的房屋才能抵御风暴。耶稣提醒我们：唯有扎根于祂的生命才能经受住不可避免的考验。

将临期是一个准备迎接的时期，值此将临期的开始，耶稣呼吁我们审视自己灵修生活的基础。祂首先要求我们聆听。如今，很多人从未真正聆听耶稣的教导，就对耶稣或对教会形成自己的看法。有些人拒绝他们想象中的福音，而非福音的真实含义。将临期邀请我们静下心来，容许基督藉着圣经，礼仪和静谧的祈祷邀请向我们发声。当我们给耶稣被聆听的机会时，信仰便由此开始。

仅仅聆听远远不够。耶稣也强调：我们要实践祂所说的话。只有付诸实践，知识才能转化为信仰。我们不会寻求圣师的建议，依然无视祂的建议：可是，有多少次，我们听了福音，但没有采取进一步行动，实践祂的福音？基督徒的生活要求我们把言辞转向行动，从意向转向皈依。

顺从一词把聆听和实践合而为一，这种顺从并非恐惧，而是出于信赖。正如水手在其性命攸关时立即服从命令，我们也把自己托付给基督，从中找到生命的意义。这是祂的恩许：凡建基在祂的圣言之上的人，不论风暴如何肆虐，始终屹立不倒。

愿此将临期巩固我们对基督的信德，因为基督是我们希望的真正基础。

Matthew 7:21; 24-27
Early Advent

In today’s Gospel, Jesus speaks with the skill of both a master teacher and a master craftsman. When He describes two builders—one wise, one foolish—He draws not only from Scripture but from His own experience of daily labour. In Palestine, a sandy ravine could look peaceful in the dry season, yet become a raging river in winter. A short-sighted builder might choose the easy ground, avoiding the hard work of digging down to rock. But only the house founded on bedrock could withstand the storm. Jesus reminds us: only a life rooted in Him can endure the trials that inevitably come.

As Advent begins—a season of preparation—Jesus calls us to examine the foundations of our spiritual life. He first asks us to listen. Many today form opinions about Jesus or the Church without truly hearing His words. Some reject what they imagine the Gospel to be, not what it actually is. Advent invites us to quiet our hearts and allow Christ to speak anew—through Scripture, the liturgy, and the stillness of prayer. Faith begins when we give Jesus the chance to be heard.

But listening alone is not enough. Jesus also insists that we do what He says. Knowledge becomes faith only when it is lived. We would not seek a doctor’s advice and then ignore his instructions; yet how often do people hear the Gospel without taking the next step of putting it into practice? Christian life requires moving from words to deeds, from intention to conversion.

The word that gathers hearing and doing into one is obedience—an obedience born not of fear but of trust. Like sailors who obey instantly because their lives depend on it, we too find life when we entrust ourselves to Christ. His promise is sure: whoever builds on His word will stand firm, no matter the storm.

May this Advent strengthen our obedience to Christ, the true foundation of our hope.

仰望耶穌

值此我們進入將臨期的初期，今天的福音經文邀請我們採取一種開放，驚歎和福傳的姿態，就是偉大的傳教士聖方濟各·沙勿略完美體現出來的姿態，他曾前往印度，日本和中國沿海地區傳教。

在福音經文中，耶穌讚美了簡樸的智慧（路10:21）天主最深奧的真理，並非要通過才智或論據來理解，而是要以孩童般的開放態度去領受。將臨期呼籲我們以全新的眼光重新開始，摒棄使我們過度思考的雜念，回歸到那顆能意識到天主的臨在的純樸，喜樂的心。聖方濟各·沙勿略把這種孩童般的接納帶到他所踏足的每片土地。不論是在果阿，還是在南印度的村莊，或是學習日語，他都能以純粹的方式宣講福音，使福音令人信服。

福音也揭露出耶穌和天父之間獨特的親密關係（參看：路10:22）不可知的天主，因著耶穌成了可知的；聖父的心，因著耶穌，可以可見的。聖方濟各·沙勿略，踏上宣講旅途，不是為了闡釋與天主有關的理論，而是為了幫助人們與生活的基督相遇。他的一生與耶穌的教導完美呼應：“如果你想要知道天主是怎樣的，就看看耶穌。” 沙勿略，藉著宣講，施洗，安慰病人，教導窮人，把他認識的耶穌的慈悲展現得淋漓盡致。

最後，耶穌宣講，祂是歷史的應驗（參看：路10:23-24）眾先知和諸聖宗徒的希望都彙聚於祂。聖方濟各·沙勿略對此深信不疑。他堅信，在基督裡，所有民族都將找到他們最深切的渴望。即使在他於上川島去世時，他仍凝視著中國，他的心中仍然燃燒著渴望基督被萬邦認識的盼望。

在此將臨期的開端，願我們以孩童般的心，以一顆謙遜的心，懷著如同聖方濟各·沙勿略所懷的熱忱尋求基督，使他人也能認識耶穌所啟示的天主。

St Francis Xavier
Matthew 15:29-37
Look at Jesus

As we enter the early days of Advent, today’s Gospel invites us into a posture of openness, wonder, and mission—dispositions beautifully embodied by St Francis Xavier, the great missionary to India, Japan, and the shores of China.

In the Gospel, Jesus praises the wisdom of simplicity (Luke 10:21). The deepest truths of God are not grasped by brilliance or argument but received with the openness of a child. Advent calls us to begin again with fresh eyes—to strip away the clutter of over-thinking and return to the simple, joyful heart that recognises God’s presence. St Francis Xavier carried this childlike availability into every land he entered. Whether preaching in Goa, walking the villages of South India, or learning the languages of Japan, he let the Gospel speak in its pure, disarming simplicity.

The Gospel also presents Jesus as revealing the unique intimacy between himself and the Father (Luke 10:22). In Christ, the unknowable God becomes knowable; in Jesus, the Father’s heart becomes visible. Francis Xavier set out on mission not to explain theories about God but to help people encounter the living Christ. His life echoed Jesus’ message: “If you want to know what God is like, look at Jesus.” Through preaching, baptising, comforting the sick, and teaching the poor, Xavier made visible the compassion of Christ he himself had come to know.

Finally, Jesus declares that He is the fulfilment of history (Luke 10:23–24). The hopes of prophets and saints converge in Him. Francis Xavier believed this wholeheartedly. He was convinced that in Christ all peoples would find their deepest longing. Even as he died on the island of Shangchuan, gazing toward China, his heart burned with the Advent hope that Christ still desires to be known by every nation.

As we begin this holy season, may we seek Christ with the humility of children and the zeal of St Francis Xavier, so that others may come to know the God whom Jesus reveals.

值此我們進入將臨期的初期，教會邀請我們慢下來，深呼吸，以孩童般開放的心去聆聽。耶穌因聖神而歡欣，因為天主沒有向那些驕傲的人和複雜的人揭示其奧秘，而是向謙卑的人揭示其奧秘。將臨期沒有以喧囂或緊迫開始，而是以容許天主進入其內的純樸開始。

耶穌讚頌聖父，因為祂把天主的真理隱藏起來，不讓那些自以是，以為自己知曉一切的人知道。這不是對研習之人的苛責，而是要提醒我們完全接納信仰，而不只是掌握信德。將臨期溫柔要求我們：我能放下控制，分析，或者預測一切的需求？我能讓天主再次給我驚喜，有如我初次與祂相見一樣？

認識基督並非只是羅列祂的觀點 —— 而是與祂相遇，讓祂的臨在塑造我們，如同在父母前的孩子一樣，在祂面前保持脆弱。

接著，耶穌揭露了將臨期最深奧的奧秘：只有藉由祂，才能真正認識聖父，才能真正認識天主。我們時常把天主想得很遙遠，好似我們隔著很遠的距離凝視祂。可是，耶穌進入了這個距離。祂攝取血肉，降生成人，使人能看到，能觸摸，能孝愛天主的心。將臨期是我們牢記天主不再隱藏的時期：祂走近我們。祂進入我們平凡的生活，走進我們的傷痛，我們的希望，我們的焦慮，祂告訴我們：“如果你想要知道天主是誰，就看看我。”

最後，耶穌對自己的門徒說：你們真是有福，因為你們看到無數代人想要看到的東西。將臨期提醒我們：人類一直在尋找天主，在歷史中蹣跚前行，渴望真光。這樣的盼望在耶穌內得到滿足。祂是先知指向的那一位，是每一個抱有希望的人最終達到的那一位，是所有祈求之人祈求的物件。

值此將臨期，讓我們抬起目光，重燃希望，喚醒我們內心孩童般的好奇心，去認識那近在咫尺的天主。

Tuesday of the First Week of Advent
Luke 10: 21-24
A Childlike Heart for an Advent God

As we enter the early days of Advent, the Church invites us to slow down, breathe deeply, and listen with the quiet openness of a child. In today’s Gospel, Jesus rejoices in the Holy Spirit because God reveals His mysteries not to the proud or the complicated, but to the humble-hearted. Advent begins not with noise or urgency, but with simplicity — the kind that lets God in.

Jesus praises the Father for hiding divine truths from those who believe they already know everything. This is not a criticism of study or learning, but a reminder that faith is ultimately received, not mastered. Advent gently asks us: Can I let go of my need to control, analyse, or predict everything? Can I allow God to surprise me again, as if seeing Him for the first time?

To know Christ is not to catalogue ideas about Him — it is to meet Him, to let His presence shape us, to be vulnerable before Him as a child before a loving parent.

Jesus then reveals the Advent’s deepest mystery: only He truly knows the Father, and only through Him do we come to know God. We often imagine God from afar, as if peering across a great distance. Yet Jesus steps into that distance. He becomes flesh so that God’s heart can be seen, heard, touched, and loved. Advent is the season when we remember that God does not remain hidden; He comes close. He enters our ordinary lives — our wounds, our hopes, our anxieties — and says, “If you want to know who God is, look at Me.”

Finally, Jesus tells His disciples that they are blessed to see what countless generations longed for. Advent reminds us that humanity has always been searching for God, stumbling through history, longing for light. In Jesus, that longing is fulfilled. He is the One to whom every prophet pointed, every hope reached, every human prayer stretched.

Let us allow this season of Advent to lift our eyes, renew our hope, and awaken in us the childlike wonder that can recognise God already drawing near.

在耶穌和百夫長的會面中，我們目睹了一種愛和信德，它們衝破了社會築起的重重障礙。百夫長是一個外邦人，是外國人，是佔領者的代表。對耶穌時代的猶太人而言，他是他們試圖規避，受猶太人輕看的人。他的僕人是一個奴隸，沒有任何權利或尊嚴。可是，那領受到耶穌溫柔目光的，恰恰就是這兩個人。

百夫長立即站了出來，展現出了其特有的品格。羅馬百夫長是軍隊中的中堅力量：他們意志堅定，嚴守紀律，果敢且負責任。令人驚訝的是：新約中提到的百夫長，他們都是受人尊敬，人品高尚的人。葛法翁的百夫長是這些百夫長中的佼佼者。他深愛自己的僕人，拒絕放棄自己的僕人。他對自己的僕人深表同情，以致他向一個猶太拉比尋求幫助，他的謙卑深深打動了耶穌的心。

然而，他的偉大之處在於他的信德。他瞭解猶太人的習俗，他感覺自己不配要求耶穌到自己的家裡。但是，他以一種鮮有人能理解的方式，信賴耶穌的權柄：“只要禰說一句話，我的僕人就會痊癒。”

他認為：甚至在很遠的地方，基督的命令也具有權威，即使這個士兵不明白，甚至沒看到這樣的權威，仍然服從。耶穌對這個外邦人的信德感到驚歎，這比祂在以色列人中間看到的信德更令祂感到驚歎。

於是，耶穌做出了一個驚人的宣告：許多人會從東方和西方來到，他們是意想不到的局外的人，他們要參加天主的筵席，那些自詡為繼承人卻要被排除在外。

福音的資訊很明確，而且永恆：
開啟天國之門，不是靠血統，地位，或者某項特權。
是信德。
是信賴。
是愛。
這些就是百夫長給我們的恩典。
