Wednesday of the First Week in Ordinary Time
Gospel: Mark 1:29-39
The Healing Power of Jesus

We often experience various illnesses in life, enduring the afflictions they bring to both our souls and bodies. Sometimes, when we participate in Sunday Mass, we may overlook our brothers and sisters who are unable to join us due to illness—they are like Simon’s mother-in-law, lying in bed with a severe fever, in urgent need of our help, our prayers, and our bringing Jesus to them.

Today, before we bring others to Jesus, let us first examine ourselves: are we also burdened by the afflictions of illness and sin upon our souls and bodies? For sin separates us from God, robs us of the image of God’s children, and makes us resemble the devil and his messengers. Therefore, it is crucial that we first accept our imperfect selves and seek Jesus’ healing. This helps us recognize our true selves and guide those in need onto the straight path leading to God, who restores wholeness to each person’s body, mind, and spirit.

Today, when Jesus entered Simon and Andrew’s house with James and John, those who were with him told him about Simon’s mother-in-law, who was suffering from a severe fever, and begged him to heal her. They have set an example for us. Let us imitate their virtue, actively interceding for God’s healing and consolation for all those living in various situations of unfreedom.

Jesus, Gentle and Humble of Heart, have mercy on us. Amen.

今天教會慶祝聖依拉略（主教聖師）的自由紀念敬禮日。殉道聖人錄告訴我們：這位主教聖師出生在西元3世紀末或4世紀初。那時候，亞略異端在基督徒中間變得流行。西元353年，聖人被選為主教，在他最擔任主教的那些日子，聖人對這樣的異端並不熟悉，直到他被放逐以後，他才開始研究亞略異端，並撰寫了許多著作，以此來反駁這樣的一種異端文化。

今天的彌撒福音取自聖馬爾谷福音。聖史告訴我們：耶穌來到葛法翁的會堂，祂把天國的真相告訴給他們，祂沒有延續經師的教導。因為經師所宣講的天主，是一個被扭曲的天主的形象。這與今天在我們的教會內看到的情況相似，我們在聖堂參與彌撒時，我們的本堂神父，會在聖道禮儀，給我們講道。當我們聆聽天主透過他們向我們講話時，假如他們的講道，與我們慣常聽到的，有著不同，我們便會感到驚訝，因為在那時候，我們是按照自己的理解進行判斷，而非按照天主的聖意，進行判斷。

今天，聖馬爾谷告訴我們：耶穌不但在會堂裡進行了宣講，祂還以其天主子的權柄，驅逐了在那裡的不潔之神。這強有力的反駁了亞略異端，因為亞略異端主張：耶穌基督既然是由天主聖父所生的，就不能像天主聖父一樣無始無終，全能全知。

親愛的兄弟姐妹！雖然我們今天不在這葛法翁會堂內聆聽天主的聖言，親眼目睹耶穌為那附有不潔之神的人所做的一切，我們仍應在信德上站穩，在生活中，全然的接受基督的教導，善度每天的生活，善用天主藉著祂的鍾愛之子，向我們分施的各項恩寵。好使我們的思言行為，日益肖似基督，不斷追隨基督，走向永生。

Tuesday of the First Week in Ordinary Time
Or Optional Memorial of St. Hilary of Poitiers (Bishop and Doctor of the Church)
Gospel: Mark 1:21-28
Jesus’ Authority to Cast Out Demons

Today, the Church celebrates the optional memorial of St. Hilary, Bishop and Doctor of the Church. The records of the martyrs tell us that this bishop and doctor was born in the late 3rd century or early 4th century. At that time, the Arian heresy became prevalent among Christians. In the year 353, St. Hilary was elected bishop. During the early days of his episcopate, he was not well acquainted with this heresy. It was only after he was exiled that he began to study the Arian heresy and wrote numerous works to refute this heretical doctrine.

Today’s Mass Gospel is taken from the Gospel of St. Mark. The evangelist tells us that Jesus came to the synagogue in Capernaum and proclaimed the truth of the Kingdom of God to them. He did not continue the teachings of the scribes. For the God proclaimed by the scribes was a distorted image of God. This is similar to what we sometimes see in our Church today. When we participate in the Mass in the church, our parish priest, during the Liturgy of the Word, delivers a homily. When we listen to God speaking to us through them, if their homilies are different from what we are accustomed to hearing, we may be surprised. At that moment, we tend to judge based on our own understanding rather than according to God’s holy will.

Today, St. Mark tells us that Jesus not only preached in the synagogue but also, with the authority of the Son of God, cast out the unclean spirit there. This powerfully refutes the Arian heresy, for the Arian heresy claimed that since Jesus Christ was begotten by God the Father, He could not be as eternal, omnipotent, and omniscient as God the Father.

Dear brothers and sisters! Although we are not present in the synagogue of Capernaum today to listen to God’s word and witness what Jesus did for the man possessed by an unclean spirit, we should still stand firm in faith and fully accept the teachings of Christ in our daily lives. We should make good use of the various graces that God bestows upon us through His beloved Son so that our thoughts, words, and deeds may increasingly resemble those of Christ, and we may continually follow Him towards eternal life.

聖史馬爾谷告訴我們：今天，耶穌召叫西滿和他的兄弟安德肋，載伯德的兒子雅各伯和若望，祂邀請他們成為祂的首批門徒。西滿、安德肋，雅各伯的若望，他們在完成各自的工作時蒙主召叫，他們並沒有貪戀當下他們所擁有的一切，沒有顧念他們的家人，他們選擇冒著風險，跟隨耶穌，選擇耶穌指給他們的一條新穎道路，以此給我們立了榜樣。

親愛的兄弟姐妹！天主時常會通過我們生活中經歷的一切來召叫我們，使我們從生活中發現天主在我們身上開始的計畫。因此，今天，讓我們效法西滿、安德肋，雅各伯的若望，在日常生活中通過祈禱來分辨天主在我們身上開始的工作，勇敢捨棄自己的一切，緊緊追隨基督，走向永生。

Monday of the First Week in Ordinary Time
Gospel: Mark 1:14-20
Repent and Follow Jesus

Today, Jesus came to Galilee to proclaim the Gospel of God. The Gospel He proclaimed was not the same as that proclaimed by the Pharisees, Sadducees, Herodians, the scribes of the people, and their leaders. The Gospel He proclaimed was the Gospel of love. He wanted to show everyone that the God He proclaimed is a God who actively reaches out to people, who loves people, and who even gave Himself up for the sake of the world.

The Evangelist Mark tells us that today, Jesus called Simon and his brother Andrew, as well as James, the son of Zebedee, and John. He invited them to become His first disciples. Simon, Andrew, James, and John were called by the Lord while they were engaged in their respective work. They did not cling to what they had at that moment, nor did they worry excessively about their families. Instead, they chose to take the risk and follow Jesus, choosing the new path that Jesus pointed out to them. In doing so, they set an example for us.

Dear brothers and sisters! God often calls us through all the experiences we go through in life, enabling us to discover the plan that God has begun in us. Therefore, today, let us follow the example of Simon, Andrew, James, and John. In our daily lives, through prayer, let us discern the work that God has begun in us, courageously abandon everything of our own, and cling closely to Christ, walking toward eternal life.

Saint Simon, Saint Andrew, Saint James, Saint John, pray for us. Amen.

今天，當耶穌來自約旦河，想要接受洗者聖若翰的洗禮時，洗者若翰曾想要阻止耶穌，因為他明認耶穌基督是創造宇宙和大地塵寰的主宰，因此，當他看到耶穌基督向他走來，要從他的手中領受洗禮時，他立即向耶穌表明，自己應當接受基督的洗禮，而非基督由自己的手中領受洗禮。

富於仁慈的主基督，祂雖具有天主的形體，並沒有以自己與天主同等，為應當把持不舍的，卻使自己空虛，取了奴僕的形體，與人相似，形狀也一見如人。（斐2:6-7）耶穌藉與人相似的形狀出現在人間，並以祂的聖身，祝聖了同為受造物的水源，給這個世界帶來永久的救恩。我們在領受基督的聖洗時所用的泉水，便在耶穌在約旦河時，以祂的聖身所祝聖的。當我們領受基督的聖洗時，我們便是在祂的聖肋之水中洗潔了自己的原罪，與基督同死，與祂同葬，與祂結合，為能在祂光榮復活時，在復活的主基督內，開始新的生命。

今天，出現在世人眼前的聖神，祂並沒有選擇在五旬節主日那樣，以強烈的火舌形象出現，而是選擇以鴿子的形象出現，意在告訴我們：天主聖三不是法利賽人所說的那個嚴苛的天主，更不是那個如同撒杜賽人所說的那個只喜愛物質上的祭品而非喜愛一顆謙遜和痛悔的心的天主，而是一個愛世人勝過愛祂自己的天主，是一個主動與人接觸的天主，是一個既包容那些恪守天主法律的人，又包容所有那些犯罪得罪祂的人的天主。

在此聖誕後第三主日：主受洗節，讓我們牢記在領受入門聖事時宣發過的信德誓言，忠於天主聖言，相稱完成天主託付給我們的使命。亞孟。

The Third Sunday after Christmas: The Feast of the Baptism of the Lord
Gospel: Matthew 3:13-17
The Word of God Who Received Baptism

Today, as Jesus came from the Jordan River to receive the baptism of St. John the Baptist, St. John attempted to prevent Him. For John recognized Jesus Christ as the Lord and Creator of the universe and all creation. Thus, upon seeing Jesus approach him to be baptized at his hands, he immediately told Jesus that it was he who needed to be baptized by Christ, not the other way around.

The merciful Lord Christ, though He existed in the form of God, did not consider equality with God something to be grasped. Instead, He emptied Himself, taking the form of a servant and being made in human likeness (Philippians 2:6-7). Jesus appeared among humanity in a form similar to ours, and with His sacred Body, He sanctified the waters—which are themselves creatures—bringing eternal salvation to the world. The very waters we use in receiving Christ’s Holy Baptism were thus consecrated by Him at the Jordan River. When we receive the sacrament of Holy Baptism, we are washed clean of original sin in the water associated with His passion; we die with Christ, are buried with Him, and are united with Him. In this way, we may begin a new life in the risen Lord at His glorious Resurrection.

Today, the Holy Spirit, who appears before the eyes of the world, does not choose to manifest in the powerful image of fiery tongues as on Pentecost Sunday. Instead, He chooses the form of a dove. This is to tell us that the Holy Trinity is not the harsh God described by the Pharisees, nor is it the God loved by the Sadducees, who preferred material offerings to a humble and contrite heart. Rather, He is a God who loves humanity more than Himself, a God who actively seeks communion with humanity, a God who embraces both those who observe His Law and all those who have sinned against Him.

On this Third Sunday after Christmas, the Feast of the Baptism of the Lord, let us deeply remember the profession of faith we made when receiving the sacraments of Christian initiation. Let us remain faithful to the Word of God and worthily accomplish the mission entrusted to us by God. Amen.
