Coffee with God:June 25, 2025

Wednesday of the Twelfth Week in Ordinary Time
Matthew 7:15-20
By their fruits you will know them

Today Jesus reminds us to look at the fruits—because a good tree bears good fruit (Mt 7:17). These words are not only a call to be vigilant but an invitation to live in truth and authenticity.

There are false prophets in our world—people who may speak well, offer quick solutions, and even seem like friends, but whose words and actions do not lead us to true freedom. Often, they say only what we want to hear, not what helps us grow. In every environment—even in families, parishes, or friendships—we must be discerning. We should never allow someone to take control of our life in such a way that we lose our own voice, our own path.

Jesus asks us to look at the fruits. What are the signs of true love, true faith? They are seen in patience, service, sincerity, and peace. You get to know someone by their actions over time, not just by their words. So don’t rush to open your heart to everyone. Be wise, be honest with what you see.

There are also times when we must cut away what no longer bears fruit—whether relationships that hold us back, or habits that harm our growth. God wants us to flourish, not to remain stuck in fear or complacency.

And finally, remember: we are each called to be good trees—to bear fruit in time, with love and patience. Not everything comes at once. But if our roots are in prayer, in the Gospel, and in the care of others, our life will speak clearly.

Let us ask the Lord for the grace to be true, to live simply and with integrity—so that by our fruits, others may know the goodness of God.
Amen.
