THE MOST HOLY TRINITY (Father’s Day)
John 16:12-15
The Trinity—a Communion that calls us to love
Today we celebrate the great mystery of the Most Holy Trinity, and we also give thanks for Fathers’ Day — a beautiful coincidence that invites us to reflect on the loving fatherhood of God, who is not distant, but near, who walks with us, and who calls us to mirror His love in our own relationships.
In the Gospel of John, Jesus, on the eve of his Passion, offers a farewell discourse full of tenderness. He assures His disciples that although He is going to the Father, they will not be left alone. The Holy Spirit will come to continue His mission — not bringing new truths, but guiding us into the fullness of the truth already revealed. He teaches us to live this truth in the real situations of life, rooted in the Gospel and open to the needs of the times.
The mystery of the Trinity — Father, Son, and Holy Spirit — is not an abstract formula, but a communion of love. And in Baptism, we are drawn into that divine family. We are made for relationships. The love shared within the Trinity is not closed in on itself but reaches out — into creation, into history, into each of our lives.
Today, as we honour fathers, we remember that fatherhood is a reflection of God’s own heart — a calling to protect, provide, guide, and love without counting the cost. A true father, like our Heavenly Father, is present, patient, and tender. Let us pray for all fathers — for those who reflect God’s love with strength and humility, and for those who struggle or are absent, that the grace of the Holy Spirit may renew them.
May our families and communities be icons of the Trinity — places of unity, mercy, and shared joy. And may Mary, Mother of the Church and Mirror of the Trinity, help us live this mystery through our choices and attitudes, especially through love that reflects the Father’s heart.
Amen.
