Coffee with God:May 25, 2025

Sixth Sunday of Easter
John 14:23-29
“Peace I leave with you; my peace I give to you.”

In today’s Gospel, Jesus says to his disciples during the Last Supper: “Peace I leave with you; my peace I give to you” (Jn 14:27). He speaks these words not in a moment of calm, but at a time of great turmoil. Judas has gone out to betray him, Peter will soon deny him, and the others will scatter. Yet Jesus, facing his Passion, offers peace — not condemnation, not anger, but peace.

This reveals the heart of Christ: a heart full of trust, not resentment. He shows us that peace is not the absence of hardship, but the presence of God even in difficulty. This is the peace we are called to receive — and to give.

Jesus invites us to be meek and gentle, to disarm hostility with mercy, to sow peace in our families, communities, and world. We must ask ourselves: do I bring peace where I go? Or do I stir tension through harshness or impatience?

Yet we cannot do this on our own. Jesus says: “My peace I give you” — not as the world gives. His peace is the gift of the Holy Spirit, who dwells in us, softens our hearts, and gives us strength to forgive and begin again. It is a moment of farewell, but also one of hope. Jesus does not leave us alone — He remains with us through the living presence of the Holy Spirit. The word Paraclete means “He who stands beside.” The Holy Spirit walks with us, consoles us, supports us, and guides us in the journey of faith.

Let us ask for this peace every day: “Lord, give me your peace, give me your Holy Spirit.” May this simple prayer take root in our lives. And may Mary, Queen of Peace, help us welcome the Spirit, that we may be true instruments of peace in our time.
